July Release

I just found out that the third book in my quilting series, Rose of Sharon is a July release. If you aren't a member of the Heartsong Presents book club, you can call this number 800-873-8635 to order a copy.

Harlequin is going to try selling Heartsong Presents books in retail stores being with the September 2012 releases, although that won't help me with my quilting series, if this venture proves a success, April 2013 release should be available at select Walmarts and Kmarts. How awesome will that be????

I haven't received my author copies of Rose of Sharon yet, now I can't wait to get them!

A Contract!

I was offered a contract from Heartsong Presents, now owned by Harlequin, for another inspirational romance novel. This book, tentatively titled A Wedding on the Rocks, is scheduled for release in April 2013.

WHEW! It's great to get my good news out! I've been keeping the offer a secret for over 30 days. I always wait for the contract before I make an official announcement. Now my Facebook friends know why I was racking up word count on the weekends! The rough draft is finished, except for the ending chapter. I'm in the first round of revisions now.

The last time I posted about contracts, it's because I turned one down, now I'm pleased to say, my signature is on the contract and will be in the mail tomorrow!

Whew!

I finally 'redecorated' my blog!

I've added my book covers. If you click on them it will take you to a link where you can purchase them. I've been meaning to do this for ages, and decided to just take the time to do it.

Let me know what you think!

Also, if you visit http://www.seekerville.blogspot.com/ today they have an excellent post on what to do to make your writing time a PRIORITY! This is very important whether you work outside of your home or work from home.

Dog Days of Summer

The dogs days of summer are upon us here in southeastern South Dakota. Temps in the high 90's with dew points creating heat indexes in the 100's. Whew! It's a good thing I have a manuscript to work on that keeps me in the comforts of air conditioning.

Hopefully, you are all staying cool too! If you need something to read, I've enter two short stories in a contest. You can follow the link below to read my story, then you can read the other stories in the contest. THEN you can vote! Yep, this is up to you the reader to vote. Of course, I hope you vote for me, but you SHOULD vote the story that you like best.

Speaking Engagement!

This will be the first of several reminder notices on my blog....just a warning!

I will be speaking to a SCBWI group in Sioux Falls, SD on August 7th at the main library. We have the room from 6-8pm.

My topic will be writing romance! Does that seem odd to be speaking to a group of children's writers about romance? It shouldn't if you've read any middle grade or young adult novel recently. There is always a thread of romance some where in plot, from a first crush to a full-fledged love.

If you plan to attend, please come with questions! Speaking engagements are more fun if they are interactive.

Hope to see you there.

Goals-A Bi-Yearly Review

I know, I'm a little late with this post. We are already six days into July. This should have been posted days ago! I have an excuse, I really do. I just can't share yet.

So, if you've been reading my blog, you KNOW I'm a huge supporter in setting goals to record your writing progress and give you forward movement. Plus they help you send "self imposed" deadlines, which gives you practice for REAL deadlines from publishers/editors.

Let's see how I'm doing.

I've completed three goals.

I put a proposal together targeted at the Love Finds You series of books and sent it to my agent, who in turn sent it to Summerside. It was rejected but....my wonderful agent submitted it to another publisher.

I've answered manuscript calls and applied for work for hire. The work for hire, resulted in an audition chapter.

I entered free or low cost contests. This one I just completed in June. I won't know the results of those entries until fall.

One goal, I'll say is half completed. That was keeping my blog current. I try but I need to try harder!

Now, looking at the three remaining goals, I can tell you that one is started and the other two will not be started. As firm of a believer in goals as I am, I know that they do have to be adjusted. Especially, if you are making progress with your writing. My remaining writing year will be spent on the goal that is started and my current WIP.

Now, let's see what else has been keeping me busy.

In February, I spoke at a writing retreat.
In March, a non-fiction publisher contacted me about writing a pictorial history book. After much deliberation and prayer, I turned it down. See previous blog post!
In April, I was a co-presenter at a library speaking engagement with Mary Connealy. That is also the month, I was asked to submit an audition chapter.
In May, I received my author copies of Job's Tears. Guest blogged on Seekerville
In June, I have other happy writing news that I can't share just yet.

As you can see, my goals are paying off for. IF you are a writer and haven't set goals for 2012, you still have time!

If you set goals, leave me a comment and let know how you're doing!
