As I judge these contests entries I'm reminded of how much courage it takes to be a writer. It doesn't matter what level you're on in your career, it takes courage to put your work and yourself out there.
Rejection is inevitable and it takes courage to stick the manuscript into another envelope or attach it to an email and send it out into the publishing world.
Rejection is more than 'sorry this isn't right for us'. It's the bad review your debut book receives on an on-line retailer. It's the booksigning where customer's won't make eye contact with you. It's finding a returned contest entry, that you sent off with high hopes, that didn't make it through the first round of judging.
Writer's, they are the most courageous people I know!
